P.L.C. CHILDCARE (LEVEL II)
The P.L.C. course in Childcare Level 2 was initiated in St. Joseph’s College in September 1995. It has grown and developed and is now very well subscribed.
The course is certified by F.E.T.A.C.
Graduating Students have gone on to open their own Crèche, to work as Classroom Assistants and a number of students have gone on from this course to study Degree Courses at Third Level.
Students also qualify for a City & guilds Certificate in Childcare.
A student from St Joseph's has won the City & Guilds gold Medal for Excellence, the top award in Britain and Ireland, every year for the past eight years.
Our students were winners of 3 Tallow Chandlers of London Awards.
CHILDCARE DCH SC
This is a one-year full time course designed to deal comprehensively with all aspects of Childcare policies and practices. The course aims to provide the student with the essential knowledge necessary to work in Childcare or progress to further education.
This course is certified by FETAC, which is the national awarding body for all further education and training in Ireland.
Entry Requirements: Entry is at the discretion of the College
Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent is desirable

No Course Fees: Funded by the Irish Government under the National Development Plan
Students pay the appropriate Awarding Bodies for Certification
Grants: Third Level Maintenance Grant available for eligible students through VEC. Students apply to the VEC section of their own County Council.

Links to Higher Education:
Students who achieve the required standard in FETAC Level 5 may progress to Higher Certificate (Level 6) and Ordinary Degree (Level 7) courses in Institutes of Technology. Entry to many degree programmes e.g. B.A. in Early Childhood Studies. Entry is based solely on FETAC results and Leaving Cert points do not apply. Many of our students go on to Third Level Education through this Childcare course. Furthermore students with appropriate FETAC awards and with a minimum of 8 distinctions may be admitted on a competitive basis to certain Degree courses in the Universities. Some courses may require certain modules. These are listed in the individual Institute prospectus. Application is made through the CAO in the usual manner.

Work Experience:
Work Experience is an essential element of this course. Each student will have four weeks placement in a suitable Childcare establishment. As a result of this placement, many of our students gain part-time and permanent employment.
